Here are 5 ways you can use chalk markers to get you organized for the back to school season!
1. Monthly Calendar Dry Erase Board
Did you know that you can use chalk markers on dry erase boards?! This was a new discovery for me and a pretty exciting one.
I have a dry erase monthly calendar in our homeschool space. Recently I had to take it down as my 20 month old toddler figured out that she could wipe away what I had written on the calendar.
I was so bummed to not be able to use it.
But now that I have discovered you can use chalk markers on white boards I can once again use our calendar!
Once you write with the Chalkola chalk marker and it dries, it stays put! Unlike a dry-erase marker, which can just be whipped away with fingers.
No more erased appointments by my toddler 🙂
Now I can once again use my calendar to see our monthly overview and help keep me from over scheduling or over committing to activities.
Using a monthly calendar is a great way to get you organized for back-to-school.
I thought it would be fun to use it not only for writing in recurring meetings or kids activities but also as a countdown calendar to the first day of school.
Have the kids put an X on each day leading up to the first day of school. This will help build excitement and get them-and me 😉 mentally prepared for going back to school.
2. Daily Planning Chalkboard
While the monthly calendar is great to see the overview of the month, sometimes you need to write down things in a little more detail than would fit on the dry erase calendar.
In our homeschool room we have a new cute Daily Chalkboard Calendar. I’m planning on using this to write in our weeks lesson plans for the kids along with any activities.
I think this visual plan will really help to keep the kids on track with their school work and help me not to forget which lesson we’re on!
You can also use a daily planning chalkboard to write down your kids daily routines for each day of the week.
3. Meal Plan
This list should have started with meal planning! In my opinion meal planning for the week is one of the quickest ways we can get organized.
No one likes to figure out what’s for dinner at 4pm.
Use a fun chalkboard to display your week’s menu. And bonus – it acts as a home decor piece too.
Plus the whole family can clearly see your week’s menu and don’t need to ask you “What’s for dinner?”
Leave space at the bottom to write down some breakfast and lunch ideas too!

4. To-Do List
Get that “To-Do” list out of your head and written down so you can start checking things off your list.
The chalkboard is a nice way to keep your “to-do” list in eye sight and not forget anything you need to get done each day.
It’s always gratifying to check a box and see your progress throughout the day!
Having a “To-Do” list can also be helpful for kids after school. Write down each chore and activity they will be responsible to complete by bedtime.
5. Chalk Labels
Chalk labels make organization look pretty and an easy way to make sure items return to their correct home and it also makes your space look pulled together.
Not only are chalk labels pretty they are also easy to erase and repurpose. No need to reprint a new label. Just wipe off and reuse!
Here are a few ways I like to use chalk labels to get organized for back to school:
Hooks
We have hooks in our garage for each child’s backpack as well as shoes bins for each kiddo.
Art Bins
It’s easy to find the right art supply when each bins contents are labeled!
School Supplies
Keep school supplies organized by adding a label to pencil cases and caddies.
Books
Many schools require the kids to label their paper notebooks, folders and 3 ring binders. Chalk labels make this an easy task!
Snacks
Chalkboard tags are great to label the snack bins in our pantry. Then each kid knows what snacks are ok for them to eat after school.
I hope these ideas will help you to get ready and organized for back to school. Whether your kids will be homeschooling, in-person or distance learning these ideas are sure to help them and you get off on the right foot for the new school year!
