Have some fun with your kids or your classroom leading up to the last day of school. Make a Countdown to Summer Break paper chain and get excited for summer!
Now that May has arrived the weather is warming up. It’s getting harder to concentrate on school work when the outdoors are calling us to come play. Kids, teachers and parents are all starting to think about summer!
To help ring in the excitement of summer and to curb some of the questions from my kiddos of “How many more days until schools over?” I created a Countdown To Summer Break poster.
I’ve also teamed up with some blogging friends to bring you even more fun ideas for how to celebrate the end of the school year. Be sure to read to the the end of this post for more ways to celebrate!
This poster is a great way to countdown the last 2 weeks of school. All you need is a printer and some fun colored paper to make your own.
How To Make the Countdown To Summer Break Poster
Print out the poster on white card stock paper to make it more durable. You can grab the poster by filling in the form below.
To Assemble the countdown chain use a razor knife or one blade of scissors to cut a 1.5 inch slit through the line on the bottom of poster.
Choose some fun colored paper to make the paper chain. Cut out 14 strips of 1 inch paper.
This will be a 14 day (2 week) countdown to summer.
Thread one paper strip through slit and glue ends of paper strip together to form a ring. Thread the next strip of paper through first ring and glue ends together. Repeat until all 14 strips are glued.
Hang the poster up on your kitchen pantry door, kitchen, hallway or entryway.
The kids will love taking turns each morning before school tearing off a paper ring from the Countdown To Summer Break poster.
Giving kids this visual countdown will help in gearing up for summer break. and it will also help us, the parents direct the child to the countdown when asked “How many days left of school?”
After the last day of school celebrate by giving each of your kiddos a bucket of summer fun! There’s no better way to welcome summer than by starting it off with a bucket full of goodies.
Fill up a sand pail with:
- flip-flops
- bubbles
- water balloons
- sunglasses
- sidewalk chalk
- swim goggles
- sand toys
- squirt guns
- silly string
- beach ball
- pool toys
I found all my items at the Dollar Tree. This is a super budget friendly surprise for the kids last day of school. You can have your kiddos fill out a Summer Bucket List of activities they would like to do over the summer.
The Summer Bucket List printable is available in the Summer Activity Planner Bundle or on its own here.
Get excited for the start of summer with the Countdown to Summer poster and a Summer Bucket of Fun!
