Cleaning the bathroom is not the most fun job but you can get it done quickly and efficiently and keep it clean all week long!
Cleaning the bathroom and keeping the bathroom clean are 2 different things. I want to start with how to clean your bathroom and then share how to keep it clean throughout the week.
Having a weekly bathroom cleaning day and the right supplies to get the job done can help us get this not so fun task done more quickly.
Pick Your Bathroom Cleaning Day
In my house I choose to clean the bathrooms on Friday’s. The family has been using them all week long and if we have guests coming over on the weekend I want the bathrooms clean.
Choose the best day for your schedule to clean the bathroom.
Maybe you choose Monday as the bathrooms were used by more people over the weekend or possibly a midweek cleaning.

Prep For Cleaning The Bathroom
I like to start from the top and work my way down. But before the actual cleaning starts there are a few ways I prep before cleaning.
Clear The Counters
First I remove all items from the countertops.
I have a few succulents, Sonicare toothbrush and beauty items out on my sink counter and I move those items to a corner outside my bathroom.
Clear The Floor
Next I remove the toilet paper holder from the top of my toilet and move the trash can outside of the bathroom.
Removing items from your bathroom will enable you to clean more efficiently and get the job done faster than if you move each item out of the way while cleaning.
Pre Treat
Lastly I pre-treat the toilet, shower, tub and sinks with Bon Ami powder cleanser. I sprinkle the powder into the toilet, in the sinks and onto the bottom of my shower and tub.
You can do the same with the cleaner of your choice.
Gather Your Cleaning Supplies
It’s a great idea to make a bathroom cleaning caddy. You can store all your needed supplies and carry the caddy to each bathroom. It also makes for easy storage.
I like to keep my toilet brush in my caddy as I have little kids whom I don’t want playing with a dirty toilet brush!
Here’s a picture of my bathroom cleaning caddy with supplies.
Supplies:
- Duster (Swiffer duster or Norwex dusting wand)
- Toilet bowl cleaner (I use Bon Ami) & toilet brush
- Disinfecting cleaning spray (I use a DIY cleaning spray: 1 part white vinegar, 1 part distilled water, 10-15 drops essential oil)
- All-Purpose Cleaning Spray (1 Tbsp unscented castile soap, 1 cup distilled water, 10- 15 drops essential oil)
- Norwex EnviroCloth
- Norwex Window Cloth
- Norwex Bathroom Scrub Mitt (I keep this in my shower)
- Shower squeegee (kept in my shower)
- Scrubbing brush or sponge for sinks and shower/tub

Steps to Cleaning The Bathroom
Dust From Top To Bottom
Dust any wall mounted light fixtures then work your way down to the mirror.
Also dust any pictures, framed art or clocks on the walls.
Clean Mirrors
I use my Norwex EnviroCloth to get the mirror wet and then wipe it with the Norwex Window cloth. This leaves my mirror streak free.
You can use the window cleaner of your choice.
I like to start with the mirror because I found anything I sprayed would fall onto my cleaned faucet and then I would have to rewipe the faucet.
Spray & Scrub
Spray sink, counters, toilet and shower with your disinfecting cleaning spray.
Note: Do not use vinegar cleaners on marble, granite, and other natural stones. The acids in vinegar can dull stone surfaces.
- Start with scrubbing the inside of your sink and working your way out onto the faucet and countertop.
Use the Norwex EnviroCloth to wipe down and remove any remaining cleaner.
- Then move to the tub and shower.
Using a scrub brush or sponge wash the walls of the tub/shower first- working from top to bottom and then scrub the bottom of the tub/shower; including the shower door and track (if applicable).
Get all surfaces and then rinse off the cleaner from walls and bottom of tub/shower. Finish by using a squeegee on tub/shower walls (to prevent water spots on glass).
- Next scrub inside of the toilet bowl. Wipe down the outside of the toilet from top to bottom. Don’t forget the sides and base of the toilet where dust and hair like to collect!
Sweep & Mop
Lastly sweep and then mop your bathroom floors!
I do this once weekly on Mondays as per my Weekly Cleaning Schedule. You can read about it here.

Tips For Keeping Your Bathroom Clean Daily
Now that we have the bathroom clean we’ll want to keep it that way as long as possible!
I’ve found there are a few things myself and family can do daily to keep the bathroom clean throughout the week.
Wipe Down
Wipe down or squeegee the shower after each use.
My husband and I have glass doors on our shower and taking 2 minutes after showering to squeegee really helps cut down on soap scum build-up.
Dispose Hair
There are 4 girls in our family of 6 and we have long hair. Daily brushing and showering can leave piles of hair in the shower or bathroom floor.
I’ve been teaching my girls to put their hair in the trashcan after brushing it each morning. This helps a lot with keeping the bathroom counter and floors clean.
Make sure to remove hair from the shower drain daily and get it into the trash can. Hair can clog drains and it’s not a fun job to clean out the drain.
Hang Towels
To get more use out of a towel hang it to dry after your shower. This will also save on doing more laundry.
Put away products
Keeping hair products and make-up off the counters will keep your bathroom neat and tidy. Take a few seconds to put these items away after use.
Get dirty clothes into the laundry.
Don’t leave dirty clothes on the bathroom floor. This makes it look cluttered and unclean.
Empty Trash
Take out the trash as needed.
I hope you feel more equipped and ready to tackle cleaning your bathroom. By doing a weekly clean and daily tidy your bathroom will stay shiny and sparkly!
