Breaking down your cleaning tasks over the course of the week will help you keep your home clean. This weekly cleaning schedule shows you how to get it done!
Cleaning my home is always one of the last things I want to spend my Saturday or Sunday doing. I’m sure you feel the same way. Weekends should be for relaxing and family time.
This cleaning process needs to be streamlined. We don’t have a lot of time to spend cleaning our homes so the time we do make to clean must be efficient.
I love using my weekly cleaning schedule. It tells me exactly what cleaning task to complete each day of the week.
How The Weekly Cleaning Routine Works
The weekly cleaning routine is broken down into 6 tasks. Each day is assigned a specific cleaning task.
Using this cleaning schedule is easy to do as you will quickly memorize the cleaning tasks for the week. It is easy for kids to remember also.
Mondays for Mopping
After the weekend my floors need a good washing! It’s also great to start my week with freshly mopped floors.
Tuesdays for Dusting
Dusting is one of my least favorite cleaning jobs. So I’m happy to only do this task once a week. Starting in the living room I move objects from surfaces and dust away.
Dusting is a great job to have kiddos do! This task has always been one of the first cleaning jobs I give my kids. It requires minimal directions and has visible results.
Wednesdays For Vacuuming
Remember all that dusting you did yesterday? Today you will vacuum up any dust from the floors and get the carpet freshened up.
Thursdays for Catch-Up
I like to leave one day in the week open for any cleaning catch-up. Inevitably there will be a cleaning task that doesn’t get completed because of unexpected changes in schedules.
If you have been staying on schedule with your cleaning tasks then you can use Thursday for a monthly cleaning job. For example dusting blinds or washing window coverings.
Enjoying your completed cleaning work is also acceptable 😉.
Fridays For Bathrooms
Cleaning the bathrooms before the weekend works best for our family. Then I know if guests or friends stop in over the weekend the bathrooms are nice and clean.
Saturday/Sunday for Bedding and Linens
Weekends are for washing the big linen items like bedding and towels! My husband and I use the same towel all week and then I put fresh towels out every Saturday. In the morning I will strip our bed and get those sheets washed also.
The kids bedding is on a two week washing rotation as we have 4 kids bedding to wash. I don’t want to spend a whole day washing bed sheets so having the kids washing rotation was my solution.
What If You Miss A Weekly Cleaning Schedule Task?
Continue to move forward with your cleaning schedule. Don’t get stuck. Don’t stop doing the other cleaning tasks even if you have missed a day.
Thursdays are open for this exact reason. Life happens and you may not get each cleaning task done. Just pick one missed task to complete on your Thursday catch-up day and be proud of what you have accomplished.
